Checkmate in ...?

Post by Ajedrecista »

Hello:

I won a game today that featured an early queen trap/fork that finished with a checkmate some moves later:

Although 23.- ..., h6 was not the best move eval-wise, I had in mind 24.- gxh6 (not forced), Bh4+, which luckily happened in the game. Later, I wondered about the fastest checkmate and I think that a good candidate starting point is from 21.- ..., dxe4+:

I got a checkmate in 12 moves:

Hi guys, some more checkmates if you play play the computer's move 18...Bc5 I think most computers will play, I tried Rebel-Extreme and an old version of Crystal here.

Then I get a line 18...Bc5 19. Ke1 Qb6 but it has not been backward checked:

[d]r4rk1/pp5p/1q3pp1/2bp2P1/2p2PbP/2P1P3/PPB5/RNB1K2R w - - 3 20

Here old version of Crystal will give, I think it is close to optimum already:

30.Kf1 Lg3+ 31.Lf5 Df2+ (1.036.213.696) 861

so that seems consistent with best line one ply further up. For 20.Kf2 it had at iteration 40

but that disappeared out of the list so here best Mate maybe a little shorter. And for 20.Bd2 it had

41 397:27 -M12 20.Ld2 Lxe3 21.Lf5 Lxd2+ 22.Kf1 De3
23.Le6+ Lxe6 24.Pxd2 fxg5 25.Th2 Txf4+

Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first
place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you
are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

Hi,
best is 22. Ke1, there's no reason to play 22. Ke1. Why not 22. Kc2 then? :D

Are you searching for the best move for White or Black? Because Ke2 isn't the best move for either side! :)

searching for a line (not necessarily best move) to answer the original question: "Is there a faster checkmate?" :)
