The wifi didn't work (there's a conference with a few thousand people next door) so they laid cabled internet. Then some teams discovered the network is completely firewalled so the tournament machines aren't accessible.

I'm hoping 5G works or it will be a short tournament.

What time control? Why ShashChess - Jonny 0-1?

Sashchess lost on time (flag fell 2s before Rb3+ was made on the board).

Hi, I have been operating ShashChess over the past few days.
I would like to clarify that I am primarily a developer in the DevOps world, and my chess experience is mainly related to OTB games and training young players.
Unfortunately, this morning we had a serious technical problem: it was our first experience playing in the WCCC, and the plan was to launch ShashChess on an AWS cloud machine. I wrote a program to manage the remote connection, which uses a websocket instead of the usual SSH, in order to allow reconnection in case of any issues, avoiding the loss of precious calculation minutes.
The event organizers (not the ICGA, but the technical partners of the event) set up the network infrastructure with significant delays and quite a few problems: SSH started working about two hours late, and for some reason, there was no way to get my websocket to work (even though it did work with a mobile connection). During these attempts, I did not receive any support or help from my teammate.
At that point, I suggested to Andrea that he play using his laptop while I tried to implement SSH in our client, at least to be able to play with the intended machine—and we were very kindly allowed to upgrade (which is not usually permitted!) once the system was operational.
Unfortunately, Andrea got caught up chatting with the spectators and ended up with an 8-minute difference between the real clock and what was displayed on his instance of the Fritz GUI, resulting in losing on time just a few seconds before the engine played the drawing move. The total lack of interest shown has really disappointed me, considering that, in our company, I seem to have been the only one who worked diligently to bring ShashChess to this tournament. I do not intend to continue lending my time to a project I do not agree with.
I am sorry for having spoiled the moment of cordial friendship.
I would like to thank the referee, the ICGA, and everyone who made these days special.

When you are alone on some endeavour, it is either extraordinarily brilliant or very stupid.

I'll give you that for your bravery. Your moment of realization came too late, I suspect partly it is because places like this refuse to give that pariah a proper.

You should join SF discord, BTW.

In 2004 people used to put a handwritten sign next to their computer ("Do you need to update the clock?") which was accepted as a question of the chessplaying entity itself to the operator. I thought this was hilarious (but it would have helped here). :D

Having done some operating at these events myself, I share your frustration and can well imagine how stressed you were getting the setup to work. You have my honest sympathy!
