fastchess

Post by jdart »

FYI I was having some trouble getting cutechess-cli to work. It would work with Stockfish, but not my engine - I kept getting "Cannot start engine," even though the path and exe name were correct and it could be started outside cutechess-cli.

Anyway, I never did figure that out, but in poking around about the problem, I found this project:

https://github.com/Disservin/fastchess

which worked just fine and appears to be quite actively maintained.

Have you tried reinstalling an engine? Sometimes when there is a new version, just changing the executable name fails (maybe it has something to do with changes to default parameters?) But I too have some engines which do not work in cutechess-cli but work in gui.

fastchess works but I could not figure out the syntax for setting options like hash.

Hi,
it's similar to cutechess. This is an example batch I used:

Code: Select all

fastchess-windows-latest ^
-engine cmd="C:\Chess\Engines\C\ChessX\ChessX 2.0 bmi2 JA\ChessX 2.0 bmi2 JA.exe" name="ChessX 2.0 bmi2 JA" dir="C:\Chess\Engines\C\ChessX\ChessX 2.0 bmi2 JA" ^
-engine cmd="c:\Chess\Top Gaunt\benchmark engines\Raven1.10\Raven1.10.exe" name="Raven1.10" dir="c:\Chess\Top Gaunt\benchmark engines\Raven1.10" ^
-engine cmd="c:\Chess\Top Gaunt\benchmark engines\Ares1-005-2-1-64adv\Ares1-005-2-1-64adv.exe" name="Ares1-005-2-1-64adv" dir="c:\Chess\Top Gaunt\benchmark engines\Ares1-005-2-1-64adv" ^
-engine cmd="c:\Chess\Top Gaunt\benchmark engines\AICE 0.99.2\AICE 0.99.2.exe" name="AICE 0.99.2" dir="c:\Chess\Top Gaunt\benchmark engines\AICE 0.99.2" ^

There is one big difference. Fastchess don't accept gauntlet, only robin tournament.
But the time management is better for fastchess.

Disservin said last week that it will be added soon.
