On-line engine blitz tourney December

Post by Joost Buijs »

The monthly online engine blitz tournament for December will take place on:

Saturday, December 21, 2:00 PM EST (Boston time) 20:00 CET (Amsterdam time)

To connect, use the following command:

winboard -zp -ics -icshost nightmare-chess.nl -icshelper timeseal -fcp ENGINE.exe -fd ENGINEFOLDER -autoKibitz -keepAlive 30
(For UCI engines, add -fUCI)

If you don’t have an account, please submit a request to admin@nightmare-chess.nl.

Our tournament manager will be Eendje (Lisebeth @ ICC).

The format will be 9 rounds, Swiss system, 5/1 time control.

Lisebeth prefers to start the tournament on the hour, so please log in 15 minutes early. Late entries will not be accommodated.

Assuming that the author himself does not enter, or has any objections, HeimdallRB will participate with v1.2.2 running 10 threads on an Intel i9 10900.

No objections from me! Excited to see how Heimdall performs! Any reason not to use the release binaries though? They're here: https://git.nocturn9x.space/nocturn9x/h ... /tag/1.2.2

You can also build a native binary by just running `make`, if you prefer. That might or might not be slightly better than the `-modern` executables

You haven't done any modifications to the engine though, have you? Just cuz the HeimdallRB name is peculiar, that's all :)

That is exactly what I'm using.

RB is simply to indicate that it is an operator running the engine, not the author himself.

Yeah, it is just the login name, not the engine name.

Tell the children on Discord to put their toys back in their prams and stop jumping to ridiculous conclusions

Out of curiosity, is there a way to see the engines as they play? I understand that connecting is just for playing engines, correct? Is there some sort of web interface or TLCV-like program I can use to watch the games live?

You just follow or observe an engine, but not sure of the specifics.

Anyone can connect to the server using WinBoard (or XBoard, for Linux/OSX). The required command is:

winboard -ics -icshost nightmare-chess.nl

You don't even need an account for that; you can login as guest, and I think you can still watch the tourney games in that capacity. You would have to know how to use the server, though.
