Another attempt to achieve an independent AI chess engine.
The Black Hole idea is described here: viewtopic.php?p=974329#p974329 .
This idea works with the material: (<=) 2 * queen + 2 * rook + 2 * bishop (which seems obvious) and refers to positions such as in the "IQ" test (http://talkchess.com/forum3/viewtopic.p ... 40#p941510).
As a rule, such positions are very difficult (out of range) for classical heuristic and NN algorithms and
need versions, parameters, tricks (human help).

Re: Sting SF Black Hole 9
In version 9, the implementation of the Black Hole idea has been modified to avoid unnecessary activation. This is a very important change.
Chess seems to be a very good environment for testing the possibility of achieving safe autonomous AI projects. The types of problems possible here can appear in other logical areas and may be omitted as seemingly marginal or unrecognized.

On the other hand here Sting takes a long time to find the right move, more than 5 minutes for comparison ShashChess 35.3 High Tal takes a few seconds to find.

Congrats for these improvements to Sting that I like. Is it still based on Stockfish 2.1.1?
Because I think the Black Hole idea on Stockfish 17 would be fantastic!

Re: Sting SF Black Hole 9
Thanks to all for your support, I also like this latest version (based on Stockfish 2.1.1).
Fishpov's valuable comments (previous topic):
Why does Sting solve the 3rd position (2b1rk2/5p2/p1P5/2p2P2/2p5/7B/P7/2KR4 w - - 1. f6) so slowly?
The Black Hole idea works when Sting gets +2 or -1,5 (both after depth 25) or 0 (directly next depth). Unfortunately (I don't like it either), here it takes several minutes to reach zero.
As for the 4th position. the maximum depths (iterations) for Sting are exactly 104.
For such long solutions there is an alternative method (no trick!) of solving: auto-play.
example:
setoption name hash value 1024
position fen 1r4Q1/7p/2N1B2k/7P/3Pp1P1/K1N1P2R/PP2PR2/8 b - - 0 1

Re: Sting SF Black Hole 9
After depth 104, Sting sends a message that it is the end of the search. If you don't see this, it's a GUI problem.
