If I understand this correctly, Motor 0.8.0 improved +27 Elo, but dropped 2 places. The reason are new engines?
What ELO we are talking about? 3500?

I know a lot of engines and programmers who worked a life-ime for their engines reaching 2800+.
Now everywhere there are new engines sprouting in great numbers into the 3500ies.

Is this not amazing?

The reason is that lots of new engines were added at the same time. Of course Motor 0.9.0 is now there.

I based the Elo scale on the SPPC UHO Top 15 - specifically I matched Stockfish at the top a couple of versions ago. I now have Stockfish 17.1 as 3859 and SPCC has it at 3854. I'll probably re-align it next update.

In terms of your "amazing" comment - The Elo is what you want it to be - I could just as easily have fixed Stockfish 500 Elo lower and have had the whole list 500 Elo lower. Or any number you want. I do not like showing Elo values for that and many other reasons, but I know people want to see something, so I put it there. For this Top 15 round-robin all that is relevant to me personally are the score and rankings.

I fear you are completely missing my point. It's not the number.
It's the fact that there are sprouting many new engines, that are so much stronger than older engines. Engine that have been created and improved during a life time.
This is amazing.

Todays bicycles are so much faster than bicycles from 19th century.
This is amazing.

Clover 8.2

Post by Modern Times »

Clover 8.2 replaces 8.1 in this Chess324 Top 15 round-robin tournament. Thanks to an approx. +18 Elo gain under these conditions, it moves from 11th up to 10th (or 9th equal if you like)
