Chess System Tal EXTREME

Chess System Tal goes EXTREME, it has a brand new neural net (pure chess knowledge) based on playing style in the tradition of the old genius of yesteryear such as Morphy, Steinitz, Lasker, Anderssen.  Chess System Tal EXTREME is the successor of Chess System Tal 2.1 EAS and gained about 60.000 style points which puts Chess System Tal EXTREME on top of both playing-style rating lists.

I would like this engine, but I need it in SSE41 or AVX (not AVX2), only AVX. If you could compile it, I would be very grateful!

Brilliant! Thanks Ed and Chris.

Minor point, it reports nodes-per-second incorrectly:

Code: Select all

info depth 6 seldepth 5 time 7 nodes 330 score cp 17 pv e2e4 c7c5 b1c3 b8c6 hashfull 0 Knps 47142
Note the "Knps", this should be "nps".

Thanks for the new version!
How to make book.bin get used?
Tried to put it in same directory as binary and to put it into a subdirectory I named polyglot-books, because that was the way it worked with older versions, regards
Peter.

I get crashes in the Fritz 20 GUI. This doesn't happen with any other engine.

Red dots are aggressive engines.
Blue dots are the gauntlet pool.
Green dots are two well known comparables.
The legend is sorted by descending EAS scores.

Testrun for my full UHO ratinglist started. Result in 4-5 days. Will CS Tal Extreme be able to make the first place in my EAS-ratinglist?

But sadly, this is still not a full working engine:

1) Only up to 64 Threads and impossible to set more Threrads than physical cores - no use in the big engine tournaments possible (TCEC, chesscom)
2) no Multi-PV-Analysis - useless as an analyzing engine for ChessBase or so, because only 1 PV-line can be seen.
3) no skill system - no play as a human against CS Tal Extreme, because the strength is always superhuman.

99% of modern chessengines can do at least point 1 and 2, but CS Tal Extreme does not.

I am very disappointed, especially, because the playing style is so cool and both authors are living legends. But what legacy this engine is? A very sad legacy right now, IMHO.

I can confirm there is a problem. On my 12 core AMD Ryzen CS Tal Extreme runs up to 10 Threads. If I choose 11 or 12, it crashes in the FritzGUI 20.
More than 12 Threads can not be chosen, because the bad multithreading of CS Tal Extreme does not allow to use more Threads than physical cores...

Maybe that's an old Fritz issue, a too long executable name, rename it for instance to : CSTal-extreme.exe

Should work.

. Folder polyglot-books
. book.bin as default
. Activate the book with the parameter Bookdepth with the desired book maximum moves it may play from the book.

There is a reason no book is included, for style engine like this there is no book, it better can figure things out itself.
