What's that ... a Stockfish attack from Austria!

Post by Frank Quisinsky »

Hi there,

https://www.amateurschach.de/fling/etoc-g_t121.html

Started for an hour or so ... because I had problems with Titan 1.1 / 1.1 JA.
Changed the engine and what I can see after a view games is that Stockfish is under attack ...

It seems, this engine want a place in the sun.

Astra by Semih Özalp, Austria
https://github.com/h1me01/Astra

A bit unclear is the name?!
What does that mean? Astra?

Astra ... the name of the bear
Astra ... Opel Astra
Astra ... the satellites
Astra ... can be a star

I think the programmer are thinking on the star.
Yes, a new star was born.

Over 84%, that is record after 90 games.
Frank, you need to stay calm right now. Don't drive people crazy again.
OK, OK ... speaking with myself.

The engine don't want a place in the sun. The engine want to trigger a solar storm.

Of course knowing, that 500 games are nothing, at least, if the two opponents are as near to each other Elo- wise as these two seem to be

Hi Peter,

yes, after around 500 games the performance in my test-run is clearly higher as now after around 1.000 games.
But after so many test-runs I do in the past, around after 1.200 games (with many opponents) all is very clear.

The reason I am using for ETOC-G 100 games more (1300).
More are waste of time and ressources.

After all, at the moment it seems place 8-10.
I know anything about that program.

move-average is with 82 OK.
After around 1.000 games 13 quick-wins.
Quantity of quick-draws are also OK.

To find the differences between this engine and others that rank so highly, I have to look a deeper.
Exactly this one isn't easy.

Similar to Hobbes, its performance is strikingly strong against significantly weaker opponents.
Again, to find a bit isn't easy.

Then yet some more "stats" from my side too, out of the little head to head match against Dragon 3.3:

Code: Select all

                         early bad avg.win
Rank EAS-Score sacs sacs shorts draws moves Engine/player

   2 220198 28.12% 22.22% 29.17% 21.16% 67 Dragon3.3
-------------------------------------------------------------------
*** Average length of all won games: 70 moves
*** Movelimit for early sac bonus : 35 moves
And an interesting win (IWS- Tool) with inserted counterpart of same opening position and colours exchanged (at same moves evals from both sides, Astra's first)
