2026 - Chess Engine Champions League (UEFA Champions League Mirror)

Part 1: The Idea, the Rules and the Draw

After the 2026-CENL (Nations League mirror) here is its big brother: the 2026 Chess Engine Champions League, a full mirror of the official UEFA Champions League 2026/27 - same 36 clubs, same draw, same calendar, same rules.
The idea
The engine ranked N on my list takes the club ranked N in the official UEFA draw (coefficient order, title holder first). Number 1, PlentyChess, wears the shirt of Paris Saint-Germain, the title holder. Every match of the official league-phase draw (Monaco, 27 August 2026) is played exactly as drawn: one game per match, the home club has White.

Twelve home wins, six draws and not a single away win: the first matchday of the 2026-CECL belonged to White. The Owen Defense, with Black's slow queenside fianchetto, gave the home engines an easy start - and most of them took it.
Spotlight: Renegade (Porto) 1-0 Viridithas (Man City)
The only real upset of the night. Renegade, number 14 on the list, beat number 6 Viridithas with White in 142 plies. Man City start the league phase with zero points - remember that for later.

League Phase - Matchday 2 - The English draw machine

The Great Snake English closed the board: eleven draws, six home wins and the first away win of the competition. Three games reached the 150-move limit.
Spotlight: Houdini (Lens) 0-1 Clover (Sporting CP)
The first away goal of the 2026-CECL - and it gives Clover the only perfect record after two rounds, 6 points from 6. On the same night Viridithas (Man City) bounced back by beating the favourite PlentyChess (Paris) 1-0 in 170 plies.

League Phase - Matchday 3 - The giants wake up

The Modern Defense gave the favourites what they wanted: eleven home wins, six draws and one away win. The big names met each other and the higher seeds won almost every duel.
Spotlight: Reckless (Bayern) 1-0 Obsidian (Arsenal), PlentyChess (Paris) 1-0 Stormphrax (Barcelona)
Two heavyweight clashes, two wins for the higher seed. The fastest game came from Viridithas (Man City), who needed only 76 plies against Pawn (AEK Athens) - the quickest win of the whole league phase. Hobbes (Dortmund) won away at Nemorino (Sabah), the only away goal of the round.
