Hi everyone, I’d like to announce my first engine, ChessEngine_Gambit 1.0, written in Java.
Features: alpha-beta (PVS) with iterative deepening, transposition table, null move, LMR and other pruning, Lazy SMP, and a 768→384x2→1 NNUE trained on my own self-play data. It supports UCI with Hash and Threads options.
Download (Windows exe with bundled Java, plus a jar that needs Java 25+): https://github.com/TaeyangHan09/ChessEn ... s/tag/v1.0
Source (MIT): https://github.com/TaeyangHan09/ChessEngine-Gambit
I wrote the engine myself in Java. I used AI tools (Claude) to help run engine-vs-engine tests, suggest improvements that I researched, then applied and verified myself to assess effectiveness, and build the NNUE training pipeline. The README has the details.
It plays on Lichess as ChessEngine_Gambit (about 2620 blitz). I’d be very grateful if any CCRL testers could include it in their testing. Feedback is welcome!

I'm having problems with java engines at present. I probably deleted something in the system environmental variables.ChessEngine_Gambit wrote: ↑Tue Nov 03, 2026 10:38 pm Hi everyone, I’d like to announce my first engine, ChessEngine_Gambit 1.0, written in Java.

Thanks, Graham! The Windows zip on the v1.0 release page has Java bundled inside, so it doesn’t need Java installed or any environment variables. Just unzip it and point your GUI at the .exe. Let me know if it gives you any trouble.
