Different prices for SMP and 1 cpu is fair but I see no reason to have only one price for all SMP(what about different prices for 2 cpu, 4 cpu 8 cpu or 16 cpu?)

I bet no one has thought of that before. You would have made a great entrepreneur if not for a programmer.

If you applied the most elemental maths, you will see that any freeware, strong engine, gives infinite value for his Elo.
Now, if you anyway want to purchase, being strength already a commodity, I would look for value in database richness, gui features, comments, training modules, even funny things.
Just my opinion, pal

According to ccrl
Rybka 2.3.2a is rated 3068
Elo/dollar = 3068/41 = 74.83

Naum is rated 2891
Elo/dollar = 2891/19 = 152.16
This ELO/dollar comparison is just wrong.
Since 2 values of ELO between 2 engines, can not be compared linearly by dividing each other, but only by using the subtraction of these 2 ELO values.

What i mean with more simple words is that:
Rybka=3068 and Naum=2891 ELO values are equivalent to:
Rybka=1268 and Naum=1091 ELO values and also equivalent to:
Rybka=268 and Naum=91 ELO values.

So by getting the last one you get:
Rybka 2.3.2a is rated 268
Elo/dollar = 268/41 = 6.5

Naum is rated 91
Elo/dollar = 91/19 = 4.8

So Rybka is better.
Contradiction. :D

You have to find another valid comparison to take into account both strength and price.

"Is it a boy or girl?"
YES! He replied.....

What was the point of the second step?

Your calculation gives the value of elo-2900/dollar not elo/dollar.

Ok, but in that case it is a very "individual" comparison of full price to update fee, which cannot be generalized... The full prizes are virtually equal but Rybka is +177 Elo (CCRL) stronger on single cpu.

@Fernando, of course it's obvious that freeware has the best elo/price ratio  The sentence I have quoted in the first positing contains the word 'commercial' which means, this topic is about engines you need to pay for.

Even with the full price of 28 dollar Naum gives 103 elo/dolla. Give me a better deal, I will buy it. The best elo/dollar is probably chess alex. It cost about 9 dollars and it is rated about 2100. So that's 233 elo/ dollar. Now who can give me tree fidy/dolla?

No, it's 28 Euros, not Dollars (= $ 39.5052 today).

3068/41.00 = 74.83
2891/39.50 = 73.19

Anyway, the exchange rate may vary but $ 1.50 more for 177 Elo more seems a bargain

I guess it was my mistake. In that case Rybka wins hands down. I would be a life time cusomer of Naum, so if Alex keep up a similar system, I will always be getting the most elo/dollar. I only paid around 25 dollar for Naum 2.1, it was almost 100 elo per dollar. Now that I bought version 2.2 I got an even better deal. Now who got a 500 elo/dollar program? I would like to buy $10 worth of elo.
