Best Elo for dollar value on single CPU?

Post by Mike S. »

I don't understand that... Single Rybka 2.3.2a isn't expensive either and ranks much higher than Naum 2.2, +120...140 at CCRL or CEGT (32 bit comparison). The prices as I find them now, are $ 41 for the single Rybka download, and 28 Euros(*) for Naum.

*) should be ~39.50 $ except fees, see http://www.ecb.eu/euro.html

(By that, I of course do not want to criticise Naum but I were only wondering about the question in the title.)

Dear Michael

You should ask too

what about 50 euro (67 $) for Loop if you have a single cpu ???

50,00 EURO!!!

Naum 28 euro Is not so expensive if you consider that It include the SMP version . ( BTw : Alexander was kind enought to compile for me a Version with support for 8 CPU)

I m considering to buy Loop however this is still pricey compare to Rybka and Naum(but not now like I already just spent some Bucks On Zappa Mexico and Naum SMP)

My very short list Fritz 11 (for the GUI), Rybka 3 (the strongest chess engine, a must have ) & Deep Shredder 11 (because this is just to support SMK and his team)

I think some authors should do like Vasik

1- Different prices for 1 single cpu or SMP version
2- Include an Opening book like rybka.ctg , rybka book for arena, etc ... for different GUI

If I remember correctly, I paid 19 dollars for Naum 2.2. Ofcourse, I got the previous customer discount.

According to ccrl
Rybka 2.3.2a is rated 3068

Elo/dollar = 3068/41 = 74.83

Naum is rated 2891

Elo/dollar = 2891/19 = 152.16

Ofcourse the best value is Rybka 1.0 64bit beta, you get infinite elo/dollar.

The problem is that I have no use for a MP program, for Naum it was more like a bonus. Dont worry, you guys are still on my waiting list, I will buy it sooner or later. I spend way too much money this month due to my injured wrist that I couldnt even buy Zappa Mexico.

Dear Gerhard,

Like I said

I m considering Loop for a future buy & will in the future support the loop team , but not now ( Like i don t want to spent more than 100 $ every month on chess engine )

( anyway I need some more smp Engine to test )

and will be glad to be a future Loop Cust ... :D

Thanks

Different prices for SMP and 1 cpu is fair but I see no reason to have only one price for all SMP(what about different prices for 2 cpu, 4 cpu 8 cpu or 16 cpu?)
