The main point here is that this was a match and certainly deserves to be ahead of single games like PConners v Maja!? this was a 6 game match, a quite a different proposition in those days.

Do you have to pick on poor Deen? Maybe we should post the matches of poor Joel getting hammered by Rybka at draw odds... :P

I should alse add the game fragment played between Frank Poole and HAL in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Although the game was chosen by Stanley Kubrick, it was author Arthur Clarke who promoted the idea to the masses of a computer's intelligence being demonstrated by playing chess. For many years, the scene in the movie was the only such exhibition seen by almost everyone.

Sadly, Arthur Clarke passed away earlier today at age ninety.

This game is not stored at the Paderborn site. I got it from Thomas (I may have had to resurrect it from a log or something, I don't remember for sure.).

At any rate, play it over and watch for the chills and spills. Danger at every turn.

The most precious thing is when Thomas told me about the expression of Frank Zibi's face when Quark uncorked:

It was based on a human game, Roesch - Schlage, Hamburg 1910 (see http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1254321).

I don't know if it's my favorite, but I recently discovered this one:

[Event "IPCCC 2000"]

[EventDate "?"]
[Round "3"]
[Result "1-0"]
[White "Shredder"]
[Black "Nimzo"]
[ECO "A18"]
[WhiteElo "?"]
[BlackElo "?"]
[PlyCount "62"]

1. c4 Nf6 2. Nc3 e6 3. e4 d5 4. e5 d4 5. exf6 dxc3 6. bxc3 Qxf6 7. Nf3 e5
8. d4 exd4 9. Bg5 Qe6+ 10. Be2 f6 11. Nxd4 Qf7 12. Bf4 Bc5 13. O-O O-O 14.
Re1 Na6 15. Qc2 Rd8 16. Rad1 Bb6 17. Bf3 g5 18. Nc6 Rxd1 19. Qxd1 bxc6 20.
Qd8+ Kg7 21. Re7 gxf4 22. Bxc6 Bb7 23. Qd7 Rf8 24. Bxb7 Nc5 25. Qg4+ Kh6
26. Qxf4+ Kg7 27. Qg3+ Kh8 28. Rxf7 Rxf7 29. Bd5 Rf8 30. Qe3 Na4 31. Qe7
1-0

Check out 18. Nc6! and 20. Qd8+!. Also it is amusing how Shredder leaves the Queen en prise for several moves.
