Well, so far I think this is pretty disappointing, and WinBoard wins this contest hands down. Is it really not possible to give Arena a fancy look?

Sorry to disagree, but I haven't seen a really good looking WinBoard screen yet.
It is a matter of taste; we have a saying: You cannot discuss about taste.

Here we see backgrounds in wood design, engine logo, user pic, colored engine output lines,...
Suggestion: Start a WinBoard beauty contest.

There is indeed no accounting for tastes, but what you say seems simply wrong:Mike S. wrote:Here we see backgrounds in wood design, engine logo, user pic, colored engine output lines,...
The only wood I see here is WinBoard, all Arena pics just show plain bichromatic boards of the type that WinBoard used in the seventies. And the piece symbols in your favorite are identically the same as the WinBoard built-ins...

_No one can hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you can hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward….

Hi Johan,
I just want to ask which chess font do you use for the chess pieces.
Thanks,
Geno

How do you get it to show with chessbase layout? (Before Richard Stickles complains, I have a legal copy of chessbase.)

Here is my Arena 1.1:

....and here is for Winboard_F:

Both are cool, i can't say that one is better than the other.
With Winboard though i can play so many variants so i prefer it better.

"Is it a boy or girl?"
YES! He replied.....
