Fire 3.0 was 100% bullet-proof for me over several hundred 1CPU chess960 games. Hopefully it runs just as well on 16 cores.

It is something I have on the todo list for Komodo, but due to some other developments, I did not have enough time to implement and test it before this event.

TCEC Season 6 - FRC event starts 28th of June at 16:00 CEST.

Hello Martin:

Great! And totally unexpected for me. Just a suggestion: AFAIK, there are not names for openings for each initial position in FRC (except in normal chess, of course). I see that in TCEC Web GUI, there is a box called 'opening' and it has now a question mark '?'. Wouldn't it be better to put there the number of the intial position? For Fire - Tornado, I see RKNQBBRN, which corresponds to position 826 if I looked well here. The same to 'Schedule for TCEC Season 6 - FRC' box, which has now:

Code: Select all

Nr White Black Termination Mov WhiteEv BlackEv Start Duration ECO FinalFen Opening
  1 Fire 3.1 * * Tornado 5 in progress 15:56:02 on 2014.06.28
I hope it is not difficult to implement. Thanks in advance. ;)

Regards from Spain.

Even if you haven't liked Chess960 before or haven't been sure about it, please watch this with an open mind, you will hopefully be pleasantly surprised. The engines thinking right from the very first move, in unconventional positions can be fascinating. And for humans too, gets them thinking as well !
Sorry Ray,but FRC is anything but real chess....

A variation yes,but far far away from the classical chess regards,

Hi Jesús, it is a good suggestion and I will pass it on to Jeremy Bernstein. He is the one maintaining the cutechess build used in TCEC.

Best,
Martin

Hi Martin, fantastic to see such a high level FRC event. Quick question, when I clicked "rules" I did not see anything FRC specific (maybe I missed it), such as if starting positions are repeated for white and black.

Keep up the great work.

Martin said that starting positions are not repeated for white and black because cutechess doesn't support that for FRC. I think that is quite good actually, we get more variety of starting positions.

Thanks Ray. While I would prefer to see start positions repeated, as with normal chess openings for "fairness', no big deal. I just assumed it would be the same.

(and you know what they say about assumptions!!!)

You can do that by using openings in an EPD file of 960 start pos. Then the repeat switch should be taken into account.
Theory and practice sometimes clash. And when that happens, theory loses. Every single time.
