Alfil 15.8 - a good news !

Alfil 15.8 has the full support for Windows XP

It's not all good news, however.

This Alfil version is a little slower and plays visibly weaker chess compared to the previous version (15.7), which was capable of simply amazing play. The great attacking style is no longer evident. I've run the 2 versions side by side, and I'm aghast at the stuff that the new version misses.

I wonder what the heck may have changed in such a short time.

Unfortunately, that version isn't available for download. Could you be so kind as to send me a copy? I've tried 15.4 (which you CAN download) and it's not so problematic (64 bits, 85% CPU, full hash size).

I have not downloaded Alfil (I root for it at TCEC 8) but Alfil 15.8 (I think the complete version number is 15.8.16) is available here:

Alfil 15.8 portable (.zip, 5.6 MB).

Those links work, but that version has all the problems I've listed. It's version 15.07 x64 (as reported in testing, on several sites) that seems to work, more or less, trouble free. That's the original 15.7 release (from August 12), that for some reason I can't fathom, has been removed from the pool of old versions to download. The one that remains is 15.7.23, which is just as problematic as 15.8.16.

On my i5-4690K it is about twice as fast as 15.7.

I have made a comparison match between version 15.7 w32 and 15.8 w32 and got very similar results.
