I posted a question about this incident in the lichess forum asking if anyone knew what happened with it. Apparently the post has been blocked. Maybe it’s a mistake or maybe they don’t want to discuss it. I’ll update if anything changes.

Magnus never takes prize money in the Lichess tournaments, he just leaves the money to roll as extra prize money for the next tournament so someone else can win it. His participation is to make the game more popular and I for one really enjoy those streams when he plays. It does bring huge online crowds. Usually he is drinking beer with his buddies and it is a very wild atmosphere with lot of noise. How he is able to play so well under those conditions is beyond my comprehension. You want this to portray MC as a cheater that is fine, maybe this will make any cheating by Hans more acceptable to you. Good for you! 😀😀😀 dude really 😀😀😀😀.

By the way what happened about me gossiping about Dlugy being banned for cheating? I guess maybe you don’t know as much as you think you do. Next time do your research before before accusing others of gossip.

It’s not a question of what I want but a question of fact.

As for Maxim Dlugy, let me guess: you don’t know anything just heard some more gossip. If chess.com has an announcement or statement somewhere, please share it.

Forget one moment the Niemann case: What happened in this video? It was for sure not fair and a mistake. But it was not planned nor done deliberately. A loss of the game or even banning from the tournament would be OK. But you can't compare this with active and deliberate cheating with engines.

This is just whataboutism I guess...

Whataboutism? Changing the subject or going on a counterattack? You have me confused with someone who is trying to defend Niemann.

I don’t know if he’s cheating. Some people I respect (Kenneth Regan for instance) don’t think he’s cheated since 2020. Many social media whores like Hikaru don’t care and are just trying to stir the pot.

My intent with pointing out this beer fueled cheating infraction is to demonstrate the hypocrisy of the Magnus fans and those calling for Niemann’s head without evidence. I think that’s now amply clear.

I wonder if we’ll get a few more cryptic interviews where he congratulates anyone who has ever been implicated in a cheating kerfuffle and been within a 100 miles of Niemann. Magnus can add himself and David Howell to that list.

Well, you link to Nieman, hence it is whataboutism.

Since Niemann himself admitted cheating, which further evidence do you need?

I “link” to Niemann? Where? Trying a little whataboutism yourself? You don’t like the way things are going so you yell “whataboutism!” in a crowded firehouse?

Hans admitted to cheating online at the ages of 12 and 16. Magnus cheated online as a world champion. So we have evidence of cheating from both Magnus and Hans. Are we to conclude that both of them cheated in St. Louis?

For example here:
dkappe wrote: Fri Sep 23, 2022 12:34 pm As a known cheater (see the thread about his cheating in lichess on a stream), why should we take Magnus seriously? Or is it one standard for Magnus, another for Hans?
or here:
dkappe wrote: Fri Sep 23, 2022 11:26 am So we have evidence of cheating from both Magnus and Hans.
You don't even just link the cases, you equalize them. And that's just ridiculous...

If someone says to you "You can trap it" in a won position in an OTB tournament you are a cheater? You would call the TD, and he would either adjudicate the position, or give a loss for you. Thats it.
