Hi Lance,
is it ok when Thinker shows its move only when it has moved - so no such command is possible like:
showthinkingmove = true ?
what means active or passive Thinker?
and how to make ponder = off in eng-eng matches?

I can answer the first question,yes it's ok and no command is needed....
More over,I remember that the earlier versions of Thinker didn't show any thinking lines at all and the fans rised a revolution against the auther then until it was fixed :lol:

I re-wrote the xboard shell some time ago, and I ended up having 'ponder' mode turned on permanently. For now, there is no way to disable that. I will fix that in future releases.

As for 'passive' vs 'active', those are two different eval code that I have been experimenting with. I suggest that you try both. You'll be surprised.

I suggest that you try both, and then pick the one you like better.

Thanks Lance for the answer!

So I will wait for a fixed version before starting to test it - as I only make eng - eng matches with ponder off!
Sorry about that - but the whole CEGT list is made so :cry:

(hoping you can fix it soooooon)

regards

The 5.x version has been playing at WBEC for several editions now. I think its time to get it out in public. The improvements over version 4.7 is not that much.

The pocket PC engine and UI will also get an update, next.

I know you are aware that we cannot test it because ponder cannot be disabled. I just wonder if you are aware that it never shows a depth of more than 1, and never shows the kns per second, even after it has moved. I am using the same ini file i used with 4.7a, and i converted it to UCI using the same settings as i have for 4.7a 4.7a does not ponder, and it shows the true depth and kns per second. The point being, when you fix the ponder problem- could you also fix the problem of it showing no depth and no kns., as well as no thinking lines to speak of.
