(frankly, i'm pretty convinced they do not add strength at all...)
except maybe in ultra-fast games, they can help find the correct line instantly (if cached)...

but in normal chess, cyclone will find the mate without bitbases (anyway).

it wouldn't phase me at all to simply remove the code...(cyclone would probably be even faster!)...i have included them only because users seem to like it, and they can help in deep endgame analysis.

A strong engine at slow time control will find the mate. The value of bitbases is that if they are used properly they will make the engine play prettier chess (though if used badly they can make the engine do horrible things like tossing a queen because it can see a bitbase solution with a reduced board).

Wasn't it "Cyclops", not "Cyclone" that was stopped?

Yea,Cyclops was stopped as a project then Norm decided to stop working also on Cyclone because of the negative feedback he was recieving, then he reconsidered his decision under the presure of the fan's request :D

I am also testing the different version of Cyclone on two cores, and will have results in two or three days.

But I can already make some remarks that could help in improving the engine: first, it seems that there are problems, sometimes, with time allocation; the endgame play is very poor comparing to other top free engines; since the 2.2 version, the new Cyclones have problems with tactics. It seems also that there are no important improvements in strength in the last versions (2.3 and 3.0).

Since I am also testing Glaurung and Stockfish in the same tournement, I could say it seems to me that Cyclone is better in open positions, plays better positionnally, but is quite inferior in endgames and in closed position. But that could be just an impression. :?

Can a learning function be implemented? I think it could be quite important.

Wish you a lot of success with Cyclone. :!:

I just found, that there is a new version 3.1 for download, but it lacks the MV feature...

Is it correct to say, that 3.0 is the strongest Toga with MV?

It's true. Cyclone 3.1 has no multi pv. Is it a bug?

The strongest Cyclone is probably the 2.3 version. Although I have only tested them at 1'2" and 5'5". The initial testing will be finished this afternoon. I could post the results this evening or tomorrow.
