Thanks Ray, we're doing our best. I also think it's very interesting. :) When the grid is filled we'll add some more Apps. We found some powered with Amy Chess, Gromit and Faile! Tim also told me that he'll soon have an iOS6-compatible version of his SmallChess.

Fritz was trounced again. This time by HIARCS (4-0). The good thing with Fritz is that it resigns early. But I wonder if this application is really powered with the Fritz engines. Or has Fritz sunk so much behind the best engines recently? HIARCS played strange move too, like castling in the open or removing some pawns shielding its king. But Fritz prove unable to exploit such moves. Anyway, here are the four games. In the second game HIARCS comes with a nice attack on Fritz's king and end up with two central passed pawns :

Thanks Ernest, interesting reading! :) Although I disagree with some posters who say its strength is equivalent to Shredder's: this is just not true, both engines don't play in the same league at all! (More later when this match is complete.)

Chris just sent me the results of tChess Pro vs. Shredder: yet another 4-0, this time for Shredder. Here's what Chris says : "I have finished tchess v Shredder (0:4) - efficiently and clinically demolished, the fourth game was probably the nicest." Here are those games:

The next match Chris will run is tChess Pro against Fritz... That way those engines (or one of them) will score its first points. ;)

We also decided, for the sake of suspense, to schedule Chess Legend's games : instead of playing all of its matches in a row we'll rather let other engines play and only publish Chess Legends' games when those engines are paired against it. The reason for that is that Chess Legends is powered with Komodo 4, so it's the only engine we see being able to shatter the current leaders. As Ian Osgourd wanted some suspense we give you some! (So if you disagree with this, boo Ian, not us : "boooooooooo!" ;) ) Also, as soon as Small Chess gets its iOS 6 update we will enter it to the tournament.

Shredder crushed Fritz 4-0, as was expected. The fourth game is especially interesting, with a very wild opening giving a very vivid middle-game. Here are the four games:

Re: iOS Tournament

Post by JuLieN »

Chris just communicated me the results of his tChess Pro vs. Fritz match. tChess scored its first points in this tournament : +3-0=1 (3.5-0.5) against an increasingly disappointing Fritz App. Here is what Chris has to say about this match:
Chris Tatham wrote:Actually this was a frustrating match - because games tended to be longer than your Fritz games (strength difference between tchess and fritz as other programs I suspect). This meant I was struggling to complete games before running out of time (Fritz flags when time is up and you can't carry on the game). So in game 2 - tchess was +6 and I adjudicated a win in game 3 it was a tablebase draw position R+B v R, so called this a draw. White always played with ipod and black had ipad.

Game 4 probably the most exciting and wild. In overall terms I'm disappointed with Fritz, I don't know abput you but I found time management wasn't very good (didn't seem to use clock very well), and it is certainly weaker than I expected. Lack of flexibility with the clock and finishing games was a problems and the multi-tasking doesn't seem to work either at least for me. So more than happy for you to finish the Fritz games.
I noticed as well that Fritz has an horrendous time management. Actually, it will only think for a few seconds before it plays, and will only really start using its 30 minutes when it is in danger: sensing a checkmate or something. When it's too late. To pile on that, the app doesn't multitask, and still has non-retina graphics. It clearly doesn't pay any respect to the Fritz trademark...

Anyway, here are the games:
