Many thanks Graham :) I'll test them when WALL-E T8 is ready with the 1000 games test. Will take some time...

Thanks, I have a question. Are the personalities in CM9-10-11 all the same values or are they adapted to the versions? I only have CM11 installed at the moment. I plan to do a tourney with them. I ever want to do this but never had the time for it. I have a set of them for outside use but I'm not sure if they are realy from CM11.
Did I remember right that you made a Kasparov setting? I didn't have it and want to include it.
If you have any idea what could be important on my site I'm open for it.
I didn't work on CM10 or CM11 (I was on the team that did CM5500 through CM9000), but I suspect that the Romanian development team did not change the personality settings for the GM or "human" personalities. They might have, under Johan's direction, changed the settings for the Chessmaster personality.

I did not make the Kasparov settings. The settings for the GM personalities were all made by either GM Larry Evans or FM Bruce Pandolfini. I honestly can't remember which. Both of them contributed a lot of tutorial content to the game.

Hi all,

Regarding the CM opening books, I wrote some programs that will convert files between Arena books (ABK) and CM books (OBK). So you could load the PGN you want into Arena and then convert that into ChessMaster. They also do Polyglot files (BIN) but transferring out of BIN to anything else is a problem as the move sequences need to be recreated, and that can be difficult with large books. I never tidied them up so they are still simple command line tools.

https://goneill.co.nz/chess.php

That page also has my program that obtains the OPK key CM uses as a lock and transfers it into Arena. That program also has an option to output the settings for the selected personality, so if you are patient enough you could go through each player and transfer all of them to Arena.

Also, Graham's settings for the personalities above are missing a couple of flags:

Code: Select all

         Hash settings (tts and ttu)
          - When hash=0 tts=4096, ttu=0
          - When hash=512Kb tts=524288, ttu=1
          - When hash=1Mb tts=1048576, ttu=2
          - When hash=2Mb tts=2097152, ttu=3
          - When hash=4Mb tts=4194304, ttu=4
          - When hash=8Mb tts=8388608, ttu=5
          - When hash=16Mb tts=16777216, ttu=6
          - When hash=32Mb tts=33554432, ttu=7
          - When hash=64Mb tts=67108864, ttu=8
It's been a long time since I played with this so I can't remember if every version of CM allows every size of hash. I vaguely remember CM9 and CM10 had a smaller max size than CM11 but I might be wrong.

I'm talking about a version that precedes audio - unless you're talking about beeps.

With the correct wb2uci.exe you don't need this. You can set the hash size in the GUI, this works for me.
I added the latest wb2uci in my link section on my homepage.

Ah, that was before my time. It would have to have been before CM5500.

Indeed it was: as best I remember, it was version 2100.

Hopefully I could find CM2000 somewhere in my backups. I used to have a video game cartridge with CM program, but the chip was probably 4bit and it played accordingly.
