Hi Walter,

thank you for including SMIRF in your test! In fact SMIRF has not yet incorporated any extended endgame knowledge nor any tables. Thus its placement nearly at the end of your result table will be correct.

SMIRF is about to be completely rewritten for Mac OS X, what probably will need a large amount of time.

Regards and "Frohe Ostern!"

Hi Walter,
thanks for testing Hamsters! That it's able to at least play some endgames is almost a miracle indeed. Of course, it's nice to know there's room for improvement! :-)

On the other hand:

[D]8/p5pq/8/p2N3p/k2P3P/8/KP3PB1/8 w - - 0 1

1. Be4 Qh6 2. Bd3 Qd2 3. Be2 g6 4. f3 Qc2 5. Bd1 Qxd1 6. Nc3+ Kb4 7. Nxd1 1-0 (Kubbel 1925)

Analyses by your Smirf MS-167d:

00:00.3 (08.02+) +1.271 1.Le4 (Lf1) Dh6 2.Ld3 Dd2 3.Le2 a6 4.Sc3+ Dxc3 5.bxc3 g6

05:57.8 (20.01=) +3.828 1.Le4 (=/=) Dh6 2.Ld3 Dd2 3.Le2 a6 4.f3 g6 5.f4 Dc2 6.Ld1 Dxd1 7.Sc3+ Kb4 8.Sxd1 Kc4

Great...

>SMIRF is about to be completely rewritten for Mac OS X...

Hmmm... No chance for more Smirf/Windows? That's a pity...

Danke, gleichfalls!

Yep.
Look at this:

[D]8/8/2p1K1p1/2k5/p7/P4BpP/1Pb3P1/8 w - - 0 1

26.Kd7? Lb3 27.Le2 Ld5 28.h4 Kd4 29.Kd6 Ke3 30.Lg4 Kf2 31.Lh3 Lxg2-+ (Hiarcs9-Shredder9 2005)

Most engines have no problems, but...

Analysis by Hamsters 0.2:

26.Kd7
g5 27.Kc7 Kd4 28.Kxc6 Le4+ 29.Lxe4 Kxe4 30.Kb5 Ke3 31.Kxa4 Kf2 32.b4 Kxg2 33.b5 Kxh3 34.b6 g2 35.b7 g1D 36.b8D Dc5
² (0.47) Tiefe: 7/13 00:00:00 89kN
= (-0.18) Tiefe: 19/38 00:10:35 1051mN

Hi Walter,
very interesting positions, I have now downloaded the test suite and will be trying to improve Hamster's endgame knowledge (Kiwi suffers from the same problem as well).
At any rate the current version of Hamsters considers Kd7 until depth 20 (which is now reached within a couple of minutes or so) then switches to h4, with a slightly negative score, so that seems an improvement over version 0.2.

Hallo Walter,

Is your test set available as PGN or EPD records?
