difference between movei uci and movei winboard

Post by Uri Blass »

movei use different default value of progress as uci engine and as winboard engine.

The progress values that it use as uci engine are 2 4 8 when the progress value that it is using as winboard engine is 2 3 5.

I thought that I change the values to be 2 3 5 both in uci and in winboard but it seems that I forgot to change it in winboard.

I discovered it only today and I would like to know how many games of movei in rating lists are games of movei winboard and how many games of movei are games of movei uci and if there is a significant difference in performance.

I suspect that bigger values of progress can help at longer time control
based on the good results of 295 and based on my intuition but I may be wrong and I did not test this thoery.

The equivalent numbers of 295 are 3 7 10(the magic numbers are 3 10 20 but 10-3=7 and 20-10=10 and only positive difference make sense)

Edit:Note that 3 7 10 were used also for 358 that did not perform better at longer time control so maybe the reason for 295 good performance at long time control is different.
