Hello George!

I had been meaning to post the settings but I don't have a lot of testresults yet, because I think that more testing at long timecontrols should be done. Several of the Blueberry settings were doing alright at Blitz but then going to a bit longer timecontrol they seemed to be slipping against Rybka 1.0 Beta. It could be that Rybka Beta is actually getting stronger at just above very fast Blitz, around game in 8 minutes + 8 seconds, but Rybka 1.0 Beta was not yet tested at 40 moves in 12 minutes (which is very roughly comparable I think to 8 min + 8 sec and 10 min +10 sec that I was using at the time) by the CCRL so I don't have much figures for that. Anyway the latest settings seem to be doing a bit better there, but have not been tested for Fast Blitz (2minutes + 2 seconds, 4 minutes + 4 seconds) and not at longer timecontrols either. But I hope they are a bit better than the Blueberry 0.93g5e settings that Thorsten has been testing, I think they might be, but not much data yet.

I had two comparable settings actually, the only difference between them is that in 0.94a Material has been reset to 100 again and in the other it was left at 95. So Blueberry 0.94a is a bit less adventurous with sacrificing pawns and such, but could be a bit more robust.

The older version is called Toga 1.3 Blueberry 0.93g9k17

These are the Toga 1.3 Blueberry 0.93g9k17 Settings:

Hash = 128 [256 Mb for Analysis, less for Blitz games]
Search Time = 0 [Default]
Search Depth = 0 [Default]
BookFile = performance.bin [Default, but not in use because a Shredder book is used as a "neutral" book]
Bitbases Path = <empty> [Default = D:\egbb5\egbb]
Bitbases Cache Size = 16
NullMove Pruning = Always [Default]
NullMove Reduction = 3 [Default]
Verification Search = Always [Default]
Verification Reduction = 6 [Default = 5]
History Pruning = true [Default]
History Threshold = 90 :!: [Default = 75]
Futility Pruning = true [Default]
Futility Margin = 120 [Default = 100]
Extended Futility Margin = 220 [Default = 200]
Delta Pruning = true [Default]
Delta margin = 55 [Default = 50]
Quiescence Check Plies = 1 [Default]
Material = 95 [Default = 100]
Piece Activity = 102 [Default = 100]
Piece Square Activity = 103 [Default = 100]
King Safety = 125 [Default = 100]
Pawn Structure = 106 [Default = 100]
Passed Pawns = 106 [Default = 100]
Toga Lazy Eval = true [Default]
Toga Lazy Eval Margin = 240 [Default = 200]
Toga King Safety = true [Default]
Toga Extended History Pruning = true [Default]

And the newer settings for Toga 1.3 Blueberry 0.94a

Toga 1.3 Blueberry 0.94a Settings:

Hash = 128 [256 Mb for Analysis, less for Blitz games]
Search Time = 0 [Default]
Search Depth = 0 [Default]
BookFile = performance.bin [Default, but not in use because the Shredder book is used as a "neutral" book]
Bitbases Path = <empty> [Default = D:\egbb5\egbb]
Bitbases Cache Size = 16
NullMove Pruning = Always [Default]
NullMove Reduction = 3 [Default]
Verification Search = Always [Default]
Verification Reduction = 6 [Default = 5]
History Pruning = true [Default]
History Threshold = 90 [Default = 75]
Futility Pruning = true [Default]
Futility Margin = 120 [Default = 100]
Extended Futility Margin = 220 [Default = 200]
Delta Pruning = true [Default]
Delta margin = 55 [Default = 50]
Quiescence Check Plies = 1 [Default]
Material = 100 [= Default, only change from 0.93g9k17]
Piece Activity = 102 [Default = 100]
Piece Square Activity = 103 [Default = 100]
King Safety = 125 [Default = 100]
Pawn Structure = 106 [Default = 100]
Passed Pawns = 106 [Default = 100]
Toga Lazy Eval = true [Default]
Toga Lazy Eval Margin = 240 [Default = 200]
Toga King Safety = true [Default]
Toga Extended History Pruning = true [Default]

Not much has changed from previous Blueberry settings but new is that History Margin has gone up to 90, although I had previously assured Shaun Brewer in the Tournaments Forum that this high a History Margin was a disaster, but in the present settings it seems to be alright... The other main change is Piece Square Activity that has gone down one unit to 103.

It all seems pretty subtle I admit! I hope the settings will still hold up at 40 moves in 40 minutes but I haven't gotten there yet.

I also hope that this is not all complete abracadabra by now if you are still reading :), the testresults I have collected for these specific settings against Rybka 1.0 Beta are to follow later.

Regards, Eelco
