Ok, then what about a page like Ed Schröder's free chess downloads page? (http://www.top-5000.nl/cp.htm) This page is largely an abandonware site, with a bunch of old commercial programs available for download.Terry McCracken wrote:I agreeDirt wrote:He's wrong about the chess programs as well. Now, he states that he obtained permission for many of these programs. But, has he obtained permission, or have the copyrights been waived, for ALL of them? I hope so, because I respect Ed and what he has done for the computer chess community, and wouldn't want to see him get into hot water over a technicality.
Also, I don't think the question about the sites offering programs for free was all that silly. The poster didn't say *free* programs offered for free.

Yes, that would explain the obtuse remarks I made. And I'm not just from Canada, but Surrey. This place has a, er, reputation of sorts. Google "Surrey Girl" to see what I mean.Tony Thomas wrote:You are from Canada.tmokonen wrote: Also, I don't think the question about the sites offering programs for free was all that silly. You ruined my joke. I expected a question as a reply, something like what? WTF? or What the heck are you talking about? There was a thread here few weeks ago that talked about an unusual site that was made by a canadian and an american. So my answer if you had responded correctly/or my way would have been, you are Canadian, and I am an American, let's start a clone site.tmokonen wrote:Yes, that would explain the obtuse remarks I made. It's silly in my opinion as it is fairly easy to distinguish abandon ware.tmokonen wrote:Ok, then what about a page like Ed Schröder's free chess downloads page? Re: what is illegal??
If someone cand find a chess program for free, he will download it, no matter it is legal or not. Unlike he is used to wasting his money.
