I'd appreciate a little help with a Novag Ruby

Post by Larry »

I got hold of two of these things the other day, but without an
owner's manual for either, just the bare machines.
Yesterday I was able to set up a position on one of them, but
today I can't seem to do the same, with either of them.
I've got a manual for the smaller, but similar, Novag VIP, and it
says that to set up a position after "NG" (for 'new game') you first
press "Ver/Set" twice, then "C/CB" (for 'clear/clear board') once.
But the "Ver/Set" key doubles as the "Color" key, and when I press
it repeatedly the color simply toggles between 'black' and 'white'. Am
I in the wrong mode or something? And if so, what can I do to get in
the right mode? The exact same thing happens on both machines.
I know on Alain Zanchetta's site there is a user downloadable
manual, but it's in French, and it's in PDF format so you can't click
and copy it into babel fish translator. Not sure it would do any
good anyway.
Hope someone can help me on this
thanks
Larry

press VER twice

press C/CB..the screen will show CLR very briefly and then change to SET
the board is now clear of all pieces

enter your position

to switch from the white pieces to black press the COLOR key and not the C/CB key

to exit the setup mode press GO

Ok thanks Steve. This might sound like a lie, but I went to the
movies yesterday and lost my reading glasses. Honestly! It's
costing me about $150 for a new pair, in the meantime I'm having
trouble reading the little buttons on the Novag.
I also got a broken down Novag VIP for a pittance. They don't
have an adaptor jack, so it could'nt have been cooked by a wrong
adaptor. But it looks like it's had a hard life, with batteries leaking
into the thing and scratches all over. It'll keep me busy for a while.
all the best and hope you recover well from the operation
