Do I need a "Deep" GUI to run a MP prog?

e.g. if I upgrade my PC to a dual core, do I need to buy Deep Fritz 10 so that I can run Rybka MP?

No, there is no need for that. If you have a dual core CPU and an MP capable UCI engine, you should be able to use that engine with two threads in any UCI compatible GUI. This includes recent versions of the ChessBase programs, Arena, XBoard (with PolyGlot) and the Shredder GUI.

Thanks

I'm not quite sure how I tell the engine to use 2 cores rather than one inside fritz 10. But I guess that will become clear once I've actually got a new PC as additional options might become available

Yes, I think so. There should be an engine parameter you can use to specify the number of threads you want the engine to use. Some engines are able to detect the number of CPU cores on your computer, and hide the "number of threads" parameter automatically on a single-core computer. This is probably why you don't see it now.

Thanks. I currently don't own a MP program either which is another reason!

I'll take a look at Glauring MP of course!
