Hi Olivier,

I don't see too many talking about Glaurung 2 epsilon/2, but from what I've seen, Tord has made a good improvement. :)

Regards, Graham.

Not so strange, really. It is just an early beta version with an unwieldy version number and an exceptionally dull style of play. Nevertheless, it is possible that we will see more people talking in a few days, when Glaurung 2 - ε/3 (with support for multiple CPUs) is released.
but from what I've seen, Tord has made a good improvement.
Thanks! I am also pleasantly surprised so far.

This is why we've not gone overboard testing epsilon/2.

Are further quick releases going to be likely after epsilon/3 or will it be safe for us to invest some serious cpu time testing? :P

Difficult to say. 2 - ε/3 will be almost identical to 2 - ε/2, apart from the addition of parallel search. After that, it depends on the summer weather. Glaurung will be playing in the OPCCC at the end of the month; if I find time, I will make as many improvements as I can before then, and release the OPCCC version shortly before the tournament. If there is no time (i.e. if the weather remains nice and sunny), I will just play with 2 - ε/3 in the OPCCC. After the OPCCC, I expect to concentrate on shogi for a while, and there will probably not be any new versions for a few months.

Perhaps the safest option for you would be to wait until the end of the month before beginning to test Glaurung seriously.

Thanks for your honesty Tord. We'll continue testing epsilon/2, but then wait as you suggest. 8-)

Hi Tord and Graham

I am very pleased too that Glaurung is doing so well :)

It will face Rybka this evening (game broadcasted the usual way).
