Re: Which is the best Arena book to use with Rybka ?
So far no controversy, no confusion and no dispute. Seems fair to everyone

A poll can never answer a question like this.
It's like voting on the value of pi, or the decay rate of Krypton 85. If we vote the value of pi to be 3.2 or say that Krypton 85 has a half life of 3 days, does it have any value?
If your poll asks "What is your *favorite* Arena book?" then it has a sensible answer.
The question "What is the best Arena book?" is rather vague, but if you mean which is the strongest, then only a huge volume of carefully prepared data can answer it correctly.
IMO-YMMV

The poll only lists certain books to select from! and that is the scope of the poll which I think is quite clear, to me at least.Dann Corbit wrote: A poll can never answer a question like this.
Some engines perform better with certain books than others. Your above question is quite generic, which I wanted to avoid because it has already been asked, moreover, it could well be answered: 'depends on the engine im using!'. With Rybka being the number one engine, we would like to know what books it performs best with, from the list.If your poll asks "What is your *favorite* Arena book?" then it has a sensible answer.
That was not the question. The poll question asks for your own opinion, of course, for the best book to use with Rybka from the listed books. And that is the books you think Rybka performs best with. The question "What is the best Arena book?" is rather vague
Again, this is not a general question. It is regarding a certain GUI, a certain Engine and certain Books only. And all have been stated clearly.but if you mean which is the strongest, then only a huge volume of carefully prepared data can answer it correctly.
Thanks for your participation in any way.

You did not understand my response.
What I was trying to explain is that descisions about strength cannot be answered by opinion. These things are answered by facts.
I have seen no facts provided in any response, nor does your poll allow them to be input.
However, if you enjoy seeing the output of the poll, then it is useful for you.

This is not a decision about strength. It is a poll about opinions. Opinions of very respected, chess enthusiastic people from all over the world which I think their opinions, to me, is the next best thing to a large multi million games study done by Harvard. This is how much I respect and trust opinions and experiences from the people in this forum.Dann Corbit wrote: .. descisions about strength cannot be answered by opinion. While your at it, can you please give us some facts about the subject? I think people will continue to ask about opinions, from trusted people, until there is a clear-cut facts to see.
And until then, your opinion does count.
