Here White played...Ra3.....!

If black plays Ne5,

2. Rxe5...!

Nice combination from a Halprin vrs Pillsbury game.

FRITZ 5.32......... finds Ra3 in 45 sec.

Cute. 99 seconds for Arasan, recent build, on a fairly slow machine:

Much to my surprise how fast Toga Checkov 2k could find the solution here in a tactical situation. Just made this version yesterday, Toga Checkov 2k seems to be producing relatively long lines and has very risky pruning.

Thank you Robert,

I will try that! 8-) Visual C is finally not crashing my Windows anymore, it was a faulty project that I had not closed. Today I compiled my first piece of C++ :!: I got an Error result -1073741502 but I did not let that stop me! Crazy Windows people, that meant the compiler could not find the command line interface, who thinks up those error messages in Redmond Virginia Microsoft headquarters. I found out the exact same thing also happened to another beginner who only wanted to display "Hello World" which is about the simplest thing you can do in C, and he was kindly helped by someone more proficient in C, that was reassuring. He got it figured out that the compiler somehow could not find the Windows Systems32 directory and he had to put the correct directory on top... Crazy Microsoft programmers... In my case there was a chessprogram running in the background, which probably meant the compiler did not have enough microseconds of time to find its most fundamental piece of software in the most important Windows directory, it displays "Error result -1073741502" The Linux people are now probably rolling across the floor holding their bellies laughing..

Well, you guys on here are so smart...

sure wish I could "build a chess program that really plays chess"..etc.

I can test 'em, but not build them....
