Carnivor, another unheard of chess engine!
Very weak, but if anyone would like a copy of it, I will send it. Just send me a PM or post your email address here. The source is also available, on request.
If you are on a sidewalk and the covid goes beep beep
Just step aside or you might have a bit of heat
Covid covid runs through the town all day
Can the people ever change their ways
Sherwin the covid's after you
Sherwin if it catches you you're through

How weak is weak?
I would only be interested if it is below 1200 Elo... (and if it is Winboard or UCI!)

Why do you want a really weak engine?

Maybe he wants to play it. Maybe he wants to use it to test against his own engines.Terry McCracken wrote:hgm wrote:How weak is weak?

Playing wise Carnivor is a cannibal with itself on the menu and Halfwit is probably a Quarterwit or an Eighthwit.
One thing is certain....Carnivor and it's cousin Halfwit are two of the fastest move generators around.
The movegens are fine examples of Michael's unique generation methods.
People do buy Citroen 2CV's you know.....

You have a good memory! I did not think that anyone would remember, Carnivor. Carnivor can play chess and uses my special precomputed move matrix that is similar to GNU Chess 4 and below, but faster. Halfwit is bitboard and perft's at twice the rate of Crafty, but can not play.
Carnivor has a node rate of about 10,000,000 nodes per second while searching the opening position on an athlon 3400+. The operable phrase is, 'Carnivor does not have' as in Carnivor does not have an evaluation function, etc. Still it can beat TSCP on a good day!

Re: Carnivor, another unheard of chess engine!
Well, if it has force and go I would be interested to have it. I am playing lots of engines from the bottom of the WBEC list in Nunn matches, to get more reliable calibration of the ratings there, and measure micro-Max 1.6 against it (and perhaps try to cut its size down further).
So far uMax 1.6 is stronger than I dared to hope, it seems to be about the level of Eden 0.0.11 (tried only at 40/1' yet).
I am also intersted to bridge the rating gap between Pos 1.14, the random mover, and my old non-Shannon blitz 'engine' NEG on the one hand, and the remaining engines on the other. So far I haven't been able to find engines that ceed any points to Pos or NEG other than through crashing and forfeiting.

No force and go, but that is trivial to add. However, there are sure to be other inadequacies that would require more work and I just do not have the time to put this program back into development. I will send to you the source if you would like to tinker with it. Maybe you would merely like to compare the speed of the move generators or something.hgm wrote:Well, if it has force and go I would be interested to have it. People seemed interested in weaker programs so I was just trying to make another one available.
Just send me a PM if you decide that you would like it! Thanks.
