According Larry Kaufman the first units of Fidelity Excel 68000 had defects. Somebody know the serial numbers of the defective units?

well it wasnt exactly a defect
it was a bug in the mate searching algorithm

Kaufman gave a test position in the CCR which would indicate if you had the Excel with the bug(Mach IA) or with the bug fixed(Mach 1b)

i dont remember now which issue of CCR the article is in so
search through the CCR's here and download the issues beginning with 1987-1988 and i think you will find his article on it:
