Nice read Wael, Carlsen does seem like the man to watch for a while to come. 8-)

Definitely he wrote that in one of his books and I read it several years ago in a chess club here in Varna with one of my friends,I think it was his book about the psychological aspect in the chess game....
Regarding the smoking issue, well, most probably some russian stuff :P

I would have to agree with him.

Now while agreeing, that 1% is HUGE. Take professional basketball (NBA). You have 1-2% of the league that are truly gifted players, and the rest got where they are by hard work and sacrificing for the team.

Look at MLB, the NHL, and even European football, you have 1 or 2 stand out players on each team, and 20 other guys that work their ass off to play. Then you have 7 billion other people who wish they could play, but simply do not dedicate themselves to their game.

That 1% is the difference between "god like status" for fans, and being a "grinder".

I was kicked out of Chapters because I moved all the Bibles to the fiction section.

It appears he borrowed the line from Edison, who said,"99% perspiration and 1% inspiration".

In any case, not original.

Not sure about this borrowing, but it's definitely not correct,at least regarding the chess game

Well it's an old line, with some truth. I'd say 10% talent and the 90% dedication.
