it is very common

NO known Novag Savants are in completely perfect working condition today

the problem is in the touch screen display which will no longer show the pieces(the Savant was the very first schachcomputer to use a touch screen move input system)

HOWEVER...

it should be noted..that it is quite possible for the processor to still be working and when connected to the Novag Printer a game of chess can be played(if the touch screen will still recognize the touch)

i have two such working Savants(but no screen display)

It Aint Over Until The Fat Lady Sings Regards

the computer used an unusual chemical to show the pieces
it was a black powder that filled the spaces of the pieces
over the years this powder evaporated or spilled out into the display screen

defective Savants today have either a blank display screen or a BLACKENED screen where the powder has tainted the glass

it is a hopeless cause

and yet even knowledgeable collectors will buy them on Ebay
hoping upon hope that maybe...just maybe..they will win the lottery and they will find one still working

there is even a well known repairman trying to restore Savants
but he is getting nowhere

a totally working Savant today would be worth a great deal of money

Wishing Upon A Star Regards
