Hi,
I just found out that Naum was finally posted by pirates for a free download.
The file posted confirms my hopes that the current copy-protection is most likely unbreakable, and that I will always know whom it came from.
So the lucky winner is Pedro from Barcelona,Spain (I have his full details).
What I would like to know is what's the best way to prosecute this guy?
I would like to start by sending his data to the proper copyright protection authorities in Spain.
Does anyone have their email or postal address? It would save me hours googling and translating spanish.
Please email me your tips to naum_chess at yahoo.com
Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,
Just one question, How do you know that this person Pedro's computer was not Hijacked? I only ask because I see an hear about so many systems being hijacked almost every day.

That's not an excuse. You are responsible for protecting your computer.
Otherwise people could use this difence for distributing anything.
I am aware of many people buying one copy and sharing it with friends. This guy probably shared it with one too many.
That's why Hiarcs and others have this complex key protection. I wanted to spare my customers from that, but I guess that was a mistake.
I don't think this influences my sales too much, but it still leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I am contemplating going private with my next version.

I agree, Just that I find most users don't have a clue as to how to protect their computers. Even the pros have flaws in there systems. It is a full time job. That's not an excuse. You are responsible for protecting your computer.
I believe you about this also. I'm just not quick to draw conclusions about the guy. Anyway I do agree you need to do something to protect your work.I am aware of many people buying one copy and sharing it with friends. This guy probably shared it with one too many.

Hi Alex,
In my opinion you would have to act of another form.
It is certain that the person who has shared her copy of Naum has committed crime and causes an economic damage to you, but I do not know if you are going to be able to obtain benefit denouncing to this person.
In Spain by download a copy of a film or a song is not illegal, by each cd/dvd virgin that we bought, us paid a canon, also by hard disks or any device who can contain information, next we also will have to pay this canon by the mobil phone. This canon is something unjust because you can buy dvd and keep information simply yours in this dvd, but us paid a canon because we presumably are going to make copies of programs with copyright, that soon is managed by a society of authors and this society distributes the money obtained between its partners.
In Spain, you can see to the group of computer science crimes of the Civil Guard or the brigade of technological investigation of the national police. But these organisms will probably act single if the person who has committed the crime has obtained a benefit economic of it, which does not seem the case.
You can make the denunciation by means of Internet, but this denunciation does not have the character of legal, to make it legal you have to go in one of the dependencies of these groups, which I do not believe that to you have benefit economically for you.

Lord forbid a service tech may have stolen the data, when the computer may have been in for service. The poor owner of the system might still be responsible unless he or she can prove that the tech stole it.

Hi Ted,
I do not animate to Alex to denounce that person.
If bad nonmemory, I believe that they entered in the computer of ***** and they took its serial number of hiarcs, I believe that in that case of course Marc Uniake did not threaten to ***** denouncing it. I do not believe that it is good for denouncing a client saying that he is responsible for which they do not enter its computer, because that can happen to anyone, although you are an expert in computer science. So I am not in agreement with the words of Alex.
I would denounce when I am sure that the person is making money with my program.
On the other hand I understand because Alex gets upset, because to all we like to receive by our work.

Hi Alex. I supported your work and tested some Naum versions. I think it is insane what you are saying now. There are 100 ways to get unauthorized access to anyone's machine these days, including those mentioned by Ted.naum wrote:Hi,

I announce here that right now I deleted Naum 2.1 from my hard drive and I won't touch any commercial Naum version again. I am not a full time security expert, I am a normal person. My little knowledge in networks is just enough to understand how unrealistic it is to expect people to protect their machines from any threat.
I won't test any commercial Naum in future and I will take care to warn everyone I know to stay away from Naum.
Thanks for your hard work,
Naum looked very nice at some point, I really liked it.
Best,
Kirill

Why would you delete Naum from your computer, because he hates piracy? It was my Hiarcs key that got leaked, I didnt know how, I didnt have a perfect explanation other than that I had it installed at three different locations, one at my house, and two at differnt computers at my previous job. I do not know if it is a good idea to try and sue one of your customers, you were hanging around at a pirate site after all, so you can be considered a contributor.Kirill Kryukov wrote:I won't test any commercial Naum in future and I will take care to warn everyone I know to stay away from Naum.naum wrote:Hi,

I fully support Naum and don't agree with Kirill's comments on this.
Alex is right to raise the issue and to seek to want to prosecute this person. It is up to that person to raise his or her own defence. I don't buy the argument that his machine may have been hacked. It may have been, but most people take basic precuations. And hackers simply would not be interested in stealing Naum. They have other better more lucrative targets. They have probably never heard of Naum, let alone want to steal it and post on a file sharing network.
I would recommend anyone to buy Naum, it is a great program at a sensible price. Keep up the good work Alex.
