Shredder Solid personality

Post by Kaj Soderberg »

One of the possible engines to choose under the Shredder (10) interface is the Shredder Solid, not to be confused with choosing the playing style Solid in the parameter screen.

I would first of all like to know what the "philosophy" is behind this engine personality, such as choosing for the endgame, being less selective, evaluating king attack less optimistically and so on?! I ask this because the definition of Solid is not universal.

Secondly i wonder if this engine personality has been tested and with what results?

Thanks for any information.

Hello Kaj

The philosophy behind solid is to have an engine which is not speculativ, less selective. Maybe it would be a nice engine for a Freestyle match where a human wants to check its decisions if they are tacticaly sound.

Unfortunately noone ever made officially a resonable test of any Shredder personality.

Thank you Ingo for the information. Now i know what i can do with Solid.
I will use it for a "second opinion" when i doubt optimistic looking moves or when i may want to see more positional alternatives in certain lines of play.

Cheers,

Kaj
