Server Benchmarks between 16 core machines

Post by Sedat Canbaz »

Hello,

Here is available a server benchmark between 16 core machines:
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Pro ... 00,00.html
1) 4 x AMD Opteron Quad-Core 8360 SE
2) 4 x Xeon X7350 Quadcore

Just wondering, which 16 core server mashine is faster for computerchess ?

Thanks in forwards,

Lemme give you a tip dude, anyone can post anything nowadays (least of all AMD. Search for AMD+deceptive+benchmarks and you will see "the big picture". The 16 core caneland from Intel (such as the one used by Junior) is already on independent sites. Are there independent sites other than AMD with this information?

If its too good to be true it probably is ...

Loosen up dude. That was a bit of friendly advice not to take what is posted as absolute truth particularly when AMD has been found to have been goofing in the past.

This seems about floating point performance, not integer.
This post may either be cause or result of misunderstandings.

Hi,

Those are SPECfp_rate benchmarks, a highly bandwidth dependent benchmark. AMD wins on this one because of the intergated memory controller.

This is probably the only benchmark that AMD currently wins in, so thats the only thing they show. dont fall for that trick. K8 already leads in this benchmark.

Looking on benchmarks on any company website will be wrong and deceptive. you cant blame them, but you better check independent benchamrks.
You better check the benchmarks here:

Barcelona is a little weak now, maybe because of the clockspeed, but in any case for the same price you can get faster machines.
