Will adding memory help performance for my chess engine?

Post by ChessAddict »

I just wanted to ask if adding more memory would help the performance of my chess engine? Thanks.

Depends on what you run now.

If you have 256Mb than you should upgrade to at least 1Gb I suggest when running XP and dual core. if you run 4 threads or Vista than at least 2Gb.

I suggest you upgrade now as the RAM prices has really hit they're low's. (DDR2)

It also depends on how you use your engine. If you spend your time playing bullet matches, extra memory won't help much. If you do overnight endgame analysis, you can use as much memory as your machine and engine can handle.
