Just saw it at the Naum site. With a 100 point improvement, it will be a very close opponent for Rybka on 4 CPU's. Rybka still wouldnt have much of a problem in the single CPU area.Naum 3 main features
* Around 100 ELO improvement in strength
* More reliable (less speculative) search. No more wild score and best move swings. Naum will provide high quality position analysis you will trust.
* Improved evaluation, especially in the area of material imbalances.
* Faster engine (higher NPS) and improved MP algorithm. Naum MP shouldn't be crashing any more. Support for up to 8 CPUs and more if requested.
* Improved time management. Naum will try to complete analysing all the moves at the certain depth, before making a choice.
* New analysis features like the 'Preserve Hash' and the 'Next Best Move'
* New pricing, more in line with the other commercial engines.
Price will be 60 EUR for the MP version and 30 EUR for the single CPU version with the 25% discount for the existing customers.

If this is true, and if we were to take CCRL literally than Naum would be exactly 8 points weaker than Rybka..... Nah! not good enough for me j/kTony Thomas wrote:Just saw it at the Naum site. The difference between 32 bit versions is even higher based on the ccrl list:
Rybka 2.3.2a 32-bit 3017 +22 −21 74.8% −169.8 36.7% 781
70.5%
Naum 2.2 32-bit 2888 +20 −20 53.9% −22.3 48.6% 747
63.4%
Difference of 129 elo that we can expect to be reduced to 29 elo.
Naum seems to earn more than rybka from the combination of 64 bit and 4 processors so the difference here is only 109 elo
Rybka 2.3.2a 64-bit 4CPU 3117 +23 −22 72.1% −148.1 39.0% 689
63.9%
Naum 2.2 64-bit 4CPU 3008 +21 −21 55.3% −32.5 47.3% 674

I do hope Alex pulls this off - it would be a great improvement.

Re: Rybka's Nemesis is in the oven
i hope this 100 pnts is not an exaggeration. It will be amazing if someone is able to catch rybka that quickly (and may force vas to come out with the rybke 3 series a bit earlier).
I reckon a 30 point difference between rybka and naum is so close as to be almost irrelevant.
best

It's almost incredible because Naum 2.2 is already so strong !
I would like to see some results against Rybka, Zappa, Hiarcs, Shredder and Fritz !
