CGBT gauntlet - Chessmaster 11

Post by Chris Tatham »

Hi All,

It's not every year we get a new Chessmaster version, so I've run the CM11 Default setting through the old CGBT gauntlet. The updated table is below:

Code: Select all

Program Elo + - Games Score Av.Op. Draws

  CM9000 Tribute : 2652 19 19 1000 59.7 % 2584 27.7 %
  CM10th Paralyse : 2650 19 18 1000 59.4 % 2584 27.9 %

  CM10th Schumacher : 2593 19 19 1000 51.2 % 2584 23.5 %
  CM10th ChesGek : 2593 19 19 1000 51.2 % 2584 23.5 %
  CM10th Default : 2583 19 19 1000 49.9 % 2584 26.2 %
  CM10th Vegeta 2d : 2557 19 19 1000 46.1 % 2584 25.7 %
  CM8000 Default : 2555 18 18 1000 45.8 % 2584 27.4 %
Well, there is an improvement over previous defaults.... but don't look too far up the table.

However, for consistency with previous tests this run used 1 CPU, I will re-run it with 2 CPU which should have a greater impact. As for previous tests full results are on my site.

The next big question - is Tony going to put his hand in his pocket? :)

Best wishes

how about taking the strongest cm setting for cm10 and seeing how that does with cm11?

Otherwise, it looks like cm 11 does not improve much in strength (but who buys it for strength/analysis anyway.)

Give or take, the default is a 40 point improvement. The problem I have is an outdated computer. If I buy the DVD version, I have no DVD drive. . Is it possible for you to send me your folder, without the .exe? Only thing I should have to put inside the folder should be an unchanged .exe, because my luck with inbetween hasnt been very good in the past. Regardless of how I set it up it only used 1 MB as a WB engine, I was successful in getting it to properly manage time. If you can help me with that I will buy it this Friday. Are there any changes in tutorials? I used to be able to beat Josh at age 8, I havent played with it in a while so I dont know if I can still do it.

I'm not sure how transferable settings are between CM versions. I suspect not, but others are more qualified to answer this than me.

If you have an ageing PC I think you will struggle to run CM11. The minimum/recommended specs are not surprisingly much higher than CM10th. Even on my relatively new dual PC, I often can not get past the intro screen before it crashes even though my video card is officially supported! - still I guess that's what makes it CM and why we love it! :)

As yet I haven't had a proper play with CM11 and I may be totally wrong but it doesn't seem that much different from CM10th - and at least this version runs from CDRom

Best wishes
