Call for hardware usage for CCT10

Post by Zach Wegner »

As the tournament weekend draws nearer and nearer, and I am furiously debugging/improving, I feel the need for better hardware press harder and harder. At the moment, I have by far the most outdated hardware in the tournament particpants list.

As ZCT is a parallel program, I would like to work on as many processors as possible. RAM I'm not as concerned about, but of course the more the merrier. ZCT is also a bitboard program, so 64-bit is essential (this is rather obvious, as all modern processors are 64 bit).

ZCT isn't really that strong, around 2400, but I am planning to go open source after the tournament. As the slated first open source DTS engine, it is somewhat groundbreaking. So all of you with top-of-the line Core 2 Quads just idling by, consider making an extremely big contribution to computer chess, and science in general!

Open source DTS would be groundbreaking indeed, and a very useful reference point. I've got no quad but I hope you find one... good luck for the tournament!

Let me also add that a Unix-like operating system would be preferred, because ZCT hasn't been ported to Windows yet. Of course a compiler is necessary as well. And really it doesn't need to be a quad, it should just be faster than my current machine!

What 'DTS' means?

A very complicated SMP algorithm created by Robert Hyatt and the Cray Blitz team. Check out http://www.cis.uab.edu/hyatt/search.html for a technical specification.

I could gladly share my overclocked Core 2 Duo, but only if the TD allows me to. It's entirely up to him.

Best,
Juan Pablo.

actually you are about 20 years late. Cray Blitz was open source from day 1 and it used DTS in 1988. :)
