Not to take anything away from others, but that has been done for at least a year now with wine on Linux. There are some things that don't work (3D as the original poster mentioned) but the engines all run (Fritz8, Junior 7, Hiarcs 8, Shredder 8 are the ones I ran).

Now I run Rybka, Toga, Fruit, Glaurung and others. I dumped the Fritz GUI long ago for SCID and Arena on Linux though.

Nice I didn't know that. But yes, I figure if you already use Linux, Fritz is not exactly your cup of tea :P

Surprisingly, wine has been around for 14 years! So it was theoritically possible to run fritz in linux more than a decade ago.

I think using crossover office you can even get 3D to work in Fritz. If anyone is interested, a 30 day trial of crossover office is available from codeweavers.com. Let me know if 3D works..

Good to hear that Fritz on Linux is becoming more mainstream.
