Hello everyone.

Some very sad news about Theo below. Cock emailed Harvey earlier this evening.

May your prayers be with him.

Hi Harvey

Just half an hour ago I received a message that Theo had a stroke.

He is lame on the right side of his body and can not speak. He is in hospital, we are not allowed to visit him. It is unclear how long recovery will last. Or even: will there be a recovery?

This is all I know now.
Our board will take over the tasks from Theo, so there will be another Leiden tournament in May.

It makes one sad though.

Kind regards
Cock

I am very sorry to hear that Enrico. It is good that Theo is in hospital now, I hope he quickly got medical help, I believe that in the first 24 hours it is very important that his situation is stabilized, his temperature is not elevated, keeping blood sugar low is important for instance and that he gets the right drugs administered. "Slecht nieuws komt zelden alleen" as they sometimes say here, "Bad news seldom comes alone" First Bobby Fischer passing away, now this. We will send some prayers his way.

My grandfather was paralyzed (his entire right side), after being shot in the head while fighting the Nazis.
I remember that, as a child, I made fun of that ... and he had a great sense of humor that made his impediment seem like an asset.

I hope Theo finds his humor and learns to have fun with his new predicament. It isn't a situation to wish for, but at the same time things can be worse.

Cheer up Theo ... you get to do things with your left hand that you never thought of doing before. ;-) (for instance: whack your precocious little children (grandchildren) with a cane, smack on the head ... and then, a moment later, have some coffee with Jack-Daniels in it, using the same hand. ;-) )

Also, dear Theo, you will be free from all of the vanity in the world ... free in a way that you probably never felt possible and all of us can only dream of!

(I just hope that Theo gets to that point ... he will be laughing at all of us.)

Regards,
Hristo
