Making such strong engines and then releasing them for free!? What is wrong with you? Didn't you know that people payed good money for fritz, junior, chesstiger 2007, and zappa. Only to see your free engine destroy them!! Shame Shame on you people.

Could be worse.

Could be like Rybka, being sold, and beating every single engine on the market for 2 years, while the evil author :twisted:shamelessly:twisted: refuses to tell everyone how it was done.

hopefully having toga mp as open source will encourage other authors to make their engines mp.. I think we are maybe a year or two away from every active engine being mp capable.

Though rybka wins many of its games, it's style lacks luster (kramnik like) and so no one cares. Not to mention that it is commercial. So when I lose I just say "oh, it should have won anyway" but Toga wins with style 8-) and being free doesn't help my ego any :(

btw Not that I like to pay before getting beat :? Now that I think about it maybe it's better not to pay.

Currently Glaurung offers better SMP scaling than all the other open source MP engines. It is even better than most of the commercials except for Zappa. I saw that on the list Tord posted a while back, and I cant seem to find it.

Agreed. Currently, Toga Chekov is the second most aggressive engine that I have (even more aggressive than Loop!), second only to Shredder 10, but it plays stronger! So Toga wins in the aggressiveness/strength ratio.

I only hope that Rybka 3 will have some amazing playing style (because, I'm willing to buy it.)

Thanks very much for the praise forToga Checkov Ulysses! :D I don't know if you already have Glaurung in your arsenal? Glaurung is a very good attacker too! In Glaurung 1.2.1 Tord has put very extensive King Safety code, I believe it is much more developed than in Fruit and Toga although I have not studied the code. In Glaurung 2.0.1 the King Safety code, because it is undergoing a complete rewrite is not yet so developed but Glaurung 2.0.1 has a lot of potential. It is very strong on modern multicore Intels like the Core 2 Duo. I like very much Glaurung's endgame technique without any tablebases or bitbases.

Have not heard much of Tord in the last couple of weeks!

Eelco

P.S. The endgames from Alaric by Peter Fendrich, another author from the Nordic countries, they are also very good!

All I can say is thank you for this wonderful engine.I have it on my PocketPC and run it under the PocketGrandmaster and Scid interfaces and can say that it plays the best chess out of all the PDA engines that I paid top dollar for including PocketFritz2 and Hiarcs9.6.Keep up the good work and one day there might be a muti thread PPC which could use the MP capabilities.
