Has anyone had any luck getting ZapChess (Chessbase) to run on Vista? I just got a Quad and was looking forward to seeing Zap perform on 4 cores. I get a message about known incompatibilities and then it bombs. I checked the Chessbase site but did not see a patch.
Thanks

Re: ZapChess and Vista
the installer must be run with administrator rights.
the gui itself later as well.
the fonts from the dvd have to be installed by hand.

Thanks Fonzie.
Would you know if this is a Vista issue or is it because the ZapChess program was only compatible with Windows? I never needed administrator rights before with XP. I was thinking of purchasing Deep Shredder 11 which is compatible with Vista and was wondering if I have to jump through the same hoops with it too. If so I was toying with picking up the 64-bit version of XP anyway.

Re: ZapChess and Vista
Chessbase didn't adapt older versions (Fritz9,zap etc..) to fit better in vista.DS11 will be fine i guess. However,as you can load uci engines in zap,you might consider getting shredder from shredderchess itself.Paul Bedrey wrote:Thanks Fonzie.

XP64 is just fine.
Don't forget to patch zap with the updates from cb.

OK, thanks again Fonzy.
I guess I'll just wait to see how my statistical programs handle in Vista too before deciding about XP 64-bit. Thank goodness for Arena! No problems so far.

There are patches for Zap! and the stronger engine update "Zanzibar". Go to this page:Paul Bedrey wrote: I checked the Chessbase site but did not see a patch.
http://www.chessbase.com/download/index.asp
select Zap!Chess from the drop down list and press the Download button. But I don't know if these address any Vista issues.

Re: ZapChess and Vista
Thanks Mike but it doesn't address the Vista issues with the Gui. I've had a Core 2 Duo for a while and loaded Zannzibar right away but that system came with Windows XP. I've not had any problems with that machine. As Fonzy said, the detailed information on ZapChess says nothing about Vista whereas Shredder 11 and Friitz 11 both say Windows and Vista compatible.
I play a lot of computer vs computer on 2 machines manually using Chessbase and various free UCI engines and I've heard rumors that UCI engines are not fully utilized (something about hash reset) so I just might go with Shredder's Gui.

I have Vista Premium x64 and it works just fine. I run tournaments and play on the server sometimes. Zappa x64 gets about 3600-4000kN/s in a typical middlegame position with quad at 3GHzF. Bluemers wrote:the installer must be run with administrator rights.
