Depends only on whether the engine you plan to test with fully supports 4 CPUs or not. If not, the Core2Duo is clearly the better choice. BTW, have you considered the Core2Duo Q6600 (with G0 stepping)?

Q6600 is always Quad. The Duo is called E6600.

Generally, you better go with the Intel Quad. Q6600 will give you the best performance per watt and per price.
