Strelka is pondering only part of the time...!

Post by ernest »

In games against Strelka (2.0B as well as 1.8), when the average time per move is T (say 30 sec, for instance), I have noticed that Strelka starts pondering (when it's my turn to play), and then stops doing so after a few seconds, maybe around T/2 (15 sec). On the Task Manager, I can see that CPU usage suddenly falls to zero.

This also means that when on a multiprocessor, you set up an engine match (I tried Strelka 2.0B against Rybka 1.0 Beta), if you allow pondering, Strelka is somewhat at a disadvantage, due to this bug.

Is this bug well known?

This is sad. Maybe you should tell Vasik Rajlich about this bug.
