The "Winning Setup" tournament

Post by Peter Skinner »

Hello everyone,

I am thinking of hosting a tournament like the freestyle tournament on Chessbase's server.

Entrants can be:

Human
Human (Computer Assisted)
Computer
Computer (Human Assisted)

Any program can be entered by anyone, and you use the best hardware you can get a hold of.

Rules would be very similiar to the CCT rules (except for the clone issue).

Default setups would probably fair worse than someone would can make their own books and has thoroughly tested the engine they would like to use.

Of course it would be open to authors as well, but I have a feeling not many would join... :)

There would be an entrance fee and the total amount would be collected and distributed from 1-3 as follows:

1st place: 50%
2nd place: 30%
3rd place: 20%

If there is enough interest I will pick a weekend to do it and setup registration.

Peter
I was kicked out of Chapters because I moved all the Bibles to the fiction section.

What's the difference between these two?
•Human (Computer Assisted)
•Computer (Human Assisted)

Also where this tournament will be held? ICC, Playchess, FICS etc?
After his son's birth they've asked him:
"Is it a boy or girl?"
YES! He replied.....

Human (Computer Assisted) - Human making the moves and checking the score via the computer. Kind of like blunder checking.

Computer (Human Assisted) - Computer playing but a human entering moves to vary an opening, and steer clear of bad captures and what not based on theory that the computer misses.

I was thinking the tournament could be held on FICS or ICC. As playchess already has their own freestyle event, I don't want to step on their toes.

I'll enter if it's in Chessbase. I'm sure it has a larger playerbase for entering your tournament.

Best,
Juan Pablo.

It's a nice idea, but on Playchess, you can be sure 99% of the participants are going to be Engine players.

So, good centaur's win over pure engines.
