Check your task manager. If Zappa is using 48-50 cpu time in processes, it is using 1. If it is using 98-100 cpu time, then it is using both. Also, if you check your parameters you will see it is set by default on "auto" in threads - which means it will use 1 if you have only 1 and 2 if you have 2 cores. Simply remove "auto" and set it to the number of cores you want it to use. Then i would prob. save the settings for future use. That takes care of the core issue. As for blitz, if in settings you mean best hash- i would use 32mb or 64 mb. For any other settings, i would not have a clue. I dont run blitz much.chesstango wrote:i use zappa mexico II on vista and on fritz gui; how do i know, for sure, if zappa is using my 2 cores??? i have no any init file; should i? in that case give me an example of it please; which are the best settings for blitz games tested till now?

Best,
PS: Forget the ini file. If it even had one it would be of no use in chessbase for a UCI engine. Chessbase would ignore all the commands anyway. The ini and config files, with very limited exceptions- are for winboard or winboard converted to UCI- neither of which is Zappa.

Dr., i am quite sure you know this already, but to be on the safe side...... If you are planning on running Zappa on 2 cores ag. another engine using 2 cores- on a dual core machine- be very sure you have ponder set to OFF

I appreciate you thanking me, Dr. But really no need. Graham Banks has spent what must seem to him like half his life teaching me everything i know. It makes me feel good inside to help others when i am able.

If you are running two engines in a match or tournament, as you are setting up the match or tourn.- you will see that it will give you the option to run with ponder on or off. In chessbase, instead of ponder, it may use the term permanent brain. To run with ponder =ON, check the box beside permanent brain. To run with ponder = OFF, make sure this box is unchecked. BTW, all this does when you run with ponder = OFF is that when it is one engine's turn to think and move the other engine cannot think at the same time. That is what you want to avoid- both thinking at same time, if you are running each engine on 2 processors on a dual core.

The key here is never, ever be ashamed to ask. That was a lesson i had to learn. And i think you will always find help here, as most everyone here knows much more than I.
