Specwise it looks like a good buy. Check to see if it is running a 32 bit OS, Most 64bit systems that I've seen come with a 32bit OS. Microcenter sells 64bit Vista Ult for $150 bucks on Powers Ferry Rd. in Marietta, Ga. The sale is good till 3/28 as far as I know. If it is like most systems it will have alot of Trial / Junkware that you will want to remove.

PS: Linux is always free ...

Depends on your needs.

Value GPU, don't expect it to run todays newest games.

No mention of Motherboard and chipset - Probably low end as well so don't excpect any OC ability. (Which is a big shame as the Q6600 overclocks so easily)

No mention of PSU and wattage. I noticed most of those pre built Acer desktops ship with a 250-300 Watt PSU. this is garbage for a quad. Never skimp ot the PSU. a good 400W will do.

2GB RAM might be a little tight for Vista but once again depends on what you do on the machine. anyway RAM is expandable and getting extra 2GB DDR2 right now couldn't be any cheaper.

Aside from all that a nice cheap Quad build if your'e only interested to do some crunching or getting a nice speed boost with MP engines, and if youre not going to OC or play some heavy 3d Games.

Tony,if you buy this PC,can I move to live with you for a while,I only need one room and preferably the same room where the Q6600 is :D

It might cost more, but I would rather build my own. At least that way I can decide what I want to skimp on (video card if it is not for gaming) and what I'd splurge on (motherboard).

Tony, you are a smart guy. Spend a tad more and build your own!

have bought a few bargain computers from places like tigerdirect and been disappointed with the build quality and performance. It is definitely a good price for a quad, but I'd prefer to run XP on it vs. Vista. Looks like it has a cheap case.

If you do not want to build your own, there are still a few outfits that will assemble a PC from your choice of components. Or you can buy a "barebones" system from a place like Newegg and add CPU, RAM, hard drive etc. Their reviews are helpful in finding a good set of components.

I am buying this computer only for computer chess related stuff and some other stuff Wael could guess. I am not savvy enough to build my own system. I could get one custom built by Dell for about 850 dollars, and I can either install XP or Vista. I am not even sure if I should buy this now, I have to go back to school next semester, and I am sort of running a tight budget.

I think I can get 50% student discount from GA state university book store. So I guess it will probably only cost me about 150 for 64bit windows.

You dont have to have a quad to watch triple X. You are more than welcome to visit if you ever come to U.S. I will even pick you up from Atlanta airport.
